A set of erotic etchings by French illustrator Martin Van Maele, circa 1908.
Van Maele is one of our favorite erotic artists of the era, technically proficient and able to move between the worlds of the macabre, humorous, and the erotic with impressive ability. De Sceleribus Et Criminibus is one of his rarest works - aside from our prints there was only one other known surviving set, sold at Gerard Nordmann's auction by Christies (and that set was missing a couple prints). Alas, we also sold these etchings (to a dedicated collector of MVM's work) which I regret every time I think about it!
Beautiful intricate detail in the engraving work and really excellent hand-painted coloring, still extremely vivid after all these years. Enjoy!
