Just as the Sexual Revolution sent explicit depictions of sex into the mainstream, so did it shed some light onto previously hidden aspects of the erotic underground. BDSM became crept its way into public consciousness starting in the late 1960s, and in large cities even began evolving into "scenes" - i.e. clubs & communities of like-minded folks who promoted gatherings and in some cases elevated some aspects of their fetishes into art (shibari, costuming, etc).

Here we've got just a glimpse into some of the BDSM variations of the time - campy leather outfits and catfighting, "corporal punishment" style spanking (especially popular in the UK), rope-play, and so on.
